HIGH POINT, NC — The Conference Carolinas All-Conference women' s soccer team for 2009 was announced today during the week's league tournament. Head Coaches from conference member institutions nominate and then vote upon the award winners. Barton was represented on the second team by sophomore forward Hilary Peterson (Hampstead, NC), who led the Lady Bulldogs (3-12-2, 3-6-2 league) with 17 points off seven goals and three assists.
League regular-season champion Belmont Abbey was represented by four players on the first team.

WILSON, NC — Senior Night for Stacy Way (Graham, NC) and her Barton College volleyball teammates was spoiled by visiting Coker on Tuesday night as the Lady Cobras exited with a 25-17, 19-25, 20-25, 25-21, 15-11 victory.
The loss left the Lady Bulldogs 13-17 overall and 7-10 in Conference Carolinas play while Coker improved to 4-25 overall and 2-14 in the league. Barton is home with Converse College at 7 Friday night and concludes the regular season at 2 p.m. Saturday in Wilson Gym vs. Limestone.
The loss left Barton's hopes of getting into the eight-team conference tournament in jeopardy. Barton currently occupies the seventh spot, but is one game up on Belmont Abbey and 1 1/2 games up on St. Andrews. If Barton wins either of its last two matches, it will in the tournament, or if Abbey or SAPC lose one match, Barton will qualify.
The Lady Bulldogs, who played without injured starters Meagan Parrott and Cassie Blackmon, got a strong performance from junior middle hitter Chancey Sebranek (Garden City, KS), who had 12 kills, three digs and three aces and recorded a .400 hitting percentage. Junior outside hitter Mel Ritter (Wescosville, PA), wound up with 17 kills and eight digs while freshman outside hitter Kati Wood (Pasadena, MD) had some big plays and finished with 14 kills and four digs. Junior setter Carly Cash (Oxford, NC) accounted for 27 assists and 12 digs and freshman libero Marina Field (Bloomingburg, NY) added 13 digs.
Coker rode 13 kills, seven digs and two aces from sophomore Cynallyhia Indriago (Columbia, SC). Junior Kristen Teets (W. Columbia, SC) tallied eight kills, three solo block and one block assist while freshman Lisa Ross (Bowling Green, KY) accounted for seven kills and two aces. Freshman setters Abby Frame (Sylvania, OH) and Molly Bookhart (Orangeburg, SC) notched 19 and 17 assists, respectively, and senior Trisha Moore (Rock Hill, SC) added nine digs.

WILSON, NC — The Barton College women's soccer team ended its 2009 season Wednesday night with a 3-1 loss to the University of North Carolina at Pembroke.
The Lady Bulldogs finished with a 3-12-2 overall record while UNCP left with a 9-7-1 mark. It was Senior Night for Barton, and Dillon Sauls (Wilson, NC) and Marissa Macri (Hampton, VA) were honored at halftime for their contributions to the program.
UNCP posted a 36-5 advantage in shots, including a 14-4 margin in shots on goal. Freshman Jo Jo Lovette (Lillington, NC) collected nine saves for the Lady Bulldogs and Barton notched a pair of team saves. Freshman goalie Rea Segoviano (Jacksonville, NC) recorded three saves for the Braves.
UNCP opened the scoring in the 11th minute when junior Faye Corbett (Sweden) centered a ball that freshman Anna Svensson (Sweden) finished into the lower left corner from 12 yards out. The lead grew to 2-0 in the 22nd minute when sophomore Britney Joiner (Jacksonville, NC) ripped a shot in from 18 yards.
Barton pulled within 2-1 in the 47th minute when Sauls sent a through ball ahead to sophomore Azlynn Aycock (Wilson, NC). Aycock outdueled a defender for the ball on the run, then beat the keeper with a shot into the upper left corner.
The Braves added an insurance goal in the 52nd minute. Joiner notched her second goal of the night when she turned and blasted a shot in from 15 yards.

WILSON, NC — The Queens University Royals spoiled homecoming for the Lady Bulldogs of Barton on Saturday afternoon with a 3-0 conquest.
The Conference Carolinas loss left Barton at 3-11-2 overall and 3-6-2 in the league. The Lady Bulldogs' fate as to if they'll make the eight-team field for the league tourney is still in doubt. Barton finishes regular-season play on Wednesday at 5 p.m. when non-conference rival UNC Pembroke visits.
Queens rose to 8-9-1 overall and 6-2-1 in the conference after posting a 10-3 advantage in shots on goal.
The Barton defense held strong for much of the first half before Queens scored twice in a 38-second span. Freshman forward Megan Sload (Conestoga, PA) scored at 34:52 when she received a cross from freshman Kristen Wright (Salisbury, MD) and booted the ball into the lower left corner of the net. At 35:30, Wright took a serve into the box from senior Katherine Johnson (Chapel Hill, NC) and finished it into the right side for a 2-0 cushion. The Royals wrapped up the scoring in the 63rd minute. Johnson served the ball in the box and Wright flicked it to sophomore Katherine Carr (Upper Marlboro, MD), who blasted a shot into the goal.
Senior Kristen Kornacki (Glen Allen, PA) played the first half in goal for Queens and earned the win. Megan Hirschy (Fort Wayne, IN) tended net for the second half. They combined for three saves. Freshman keeper Jo-Jo Lovette (Lillington, NC) collected six saves, including one off a penalty kick in the first half.

WILSON, NC — Even 110 minutes of soccer couldn't determine a winner Thursday night as host Barton and archrival Mount Olive College played to a 0-0 women's soccer deadlock through two overtimes.
Barton stands 2-10-2 overall and 2-5-2 in Conference Carolinas play while Mount Olive is 5-7-3 overall and 3-3-2 in league play. Barton is home with Coker College at 5 p.m. Saturday while Mount Olive entertains Lees-McRae at 4 p.m.
Barton finished with an 8-2 advantage in shots on goal while Mount Olive posted a big 12-2 edge in corner kicks. The host Bulldogs got a shutout in goal from freshman Sarah Dice (Clear Spring, MD), who drew her first start in goal in place of injured Angelina Lovette (Lillington, NC). Dice notched two saves. For Mount Olive, sophomore Lindsey McIntyre (Leesburg, VA) collected seven saves and the defense was credited with one.
Sophomore forward Hilary Peterson (Topsail, NC) provided much of the offense for the Lady Bulldogs with five shots on goal. McIntyre made two saves in the overtime sessions while Dice was forced to make none.

WILSON, NC — Visiting Chowan University scored two goals midway through the second half Thursday night to secure a 2-0 women's soccer victory over Barton College.
Chowan improved to 5-9 overall while Barton slipped to 2-9-1. Barton is home with 1 p.m. Saturday with Conference Carolinas foe Anderson University while Chowan plays Wingate at 4 p.m. Wednesday.
Freshman Alisha Terry (Fredericksburg, VA) broke the scoreless tie in the 63rd minute. Senior Clara Danzeisen (Richmond, VA) crossed the ball from the left side, where Terry blasted into the goal from 25 yards.
The Hawks made it 2-0 in the 70th minute when senior Ashley Bradford (Chesapeake, VA) broke down the right side and ripped a shot into the back left of the net. Bradford had a strong second half controlling the ball for the victors.
Chowan finished with a 10-5 advantage in shots on goal. Junior Kristy Brown (Chesapeake, VA) collected five saves for the Hawks and freshman Angelina Lovette (Lillington, NC) made eight stops for Barton.
Chowan wound up with a 4-3 edge in corner kicks.

BANNER ELK, N.C. - The Barton College Lady Bulldogs scored two goals within in a minute in the first half to down the Lees-McRae College Lady Bobcats 2-0 Wednesday night in Conference Carolinas women's soccer action at Tate Field.
Sarah Dice scored Barton's first goal in the 20th minute on an assist from Brittany Bobbitt to make it 1-0.
Hilary Peterson found the back of the net a minute later for the Lady Bulldogs to give the game the final score of 2-0. Bobbitt again had the assist.
Lees-McRae controlled the possession with 13 first half shots compared to four but couldn't find the net. The Lady Bobcats added seven more shots in the second half compared to the Lady Bulldogs' two second half shots.
The Lady Bobcats also held an 8-2 corner kick advantage.
Angelina Lovette earned the win between the pipes for Barton with 12 saves, eight in the first half and four in the second. Brittany Bolton took the loss despite making two saves.
With the loss, Lees-McRae falls to 5-4 overall and earned their first conference loss of the season to fall to 3-1. Barton improves to 2-6-1 overall and 2-2-1 in the conference.
"We played the same as we have in the last few matches,'" Barton head coach Michael Michalakis said. "The big difference is we were able to keep the score advantage we built in the first 15 minutes of the game. We stayed focused and determined to come up with the win, which was different than in previous games."
Michalakis said it was "exciting" to see his young team "capitalizing on a good performance. Angelina (Lovette) some crucial saves for us in goal that kept the match scoreless. She is playing well for a freshman."
Barton visits Belmont Abbey at 1 p.m. Saturday while Lees-McRae will host St. Andrews College on Saturday.

WILSON, NC — Freshman Molly Harpe (Anderson, SC) scored in the 105th minute Saturday evening to give visiting Erskine College a 1-0, double-overtime women's soccer victory over Barton College.
Harpe's goal came off a centering pass from freshman Kimrey Angotti-Smith (Goose Creek, SC) five minutes, 35 seconds into the second 10-minute overtime. Harpe corraled the pass and ripped a left-footed shot just inside the right post — and past diving Barton keeper Angelina Lovette (Lillington, NC).
Barton slipped to 1-6-1 overall and 1-2-1 in Conference Carolinas play while Erskine exited at 3-4 overall and 2-1 in the league. Barton plays at Lees-McRae College and Erskine entertains Limestone in 5 p.m. tilts this Wednesday.
The Lady Bulldogs, who were celebrating Fall Family Weekend, put some pressure on junior Erskine goalie Si'Ara Washington (Mt. Pleasant, SC) in the early going, then the Flying Fleet controlled the tempo in the middle portion of the match. Late in regulation, Barton had several great shot attempts from sophomore Hilary Peterson (Hampstead, NC) and senior Dillon Sauls (Wilson, NC), but couldn't find the net.
Erskine finished with a 12-11 advantage in shots, including an 8-5 edge in shots on goal. Washington made five saves and Lovette had six.

LAURINBURG, N.C.-Sophomore Krystal Hedderman (Fredericksburg, Va.) scored on a pair of penalty kicks in the final 16 minutes of regulation as the St. Andrews Presbyterian College women's soccer team to rallied for a 2-2, double-overtime draw against Conference Carolinas rival Barton College on Monday afternoon.
The Lady Knights (4-2-1 Overall; 2-0-1 Conference) remain undefeated in league play and at home in 2009. SAPC is 4-0-1 in front of the home crowd this season and are undefeated in its last eight home games (6-0-2) dating back to last year.
St. Andrews and Barton both earned one point in the conference standings with the tie, marking the second year in a row the two squads have played to a double overtime draw (0-0 in 2008).
Sophomore Hilary Peterson (Hampstead, N.C.) had a three-point performance to lead the Lady Bulldogs (1-5-1; 1-1-1). Peterson assisted on Barton's first goal and then scored her third goal of the season to give the visitors a two-goal lead in the second half that would be erased by Hedderman.
The Knights dominated play in the first half with an 11-5 shot advantage but Barton freshman goalkeeper Angelina Lovette (Lillington, N.C.) made six of her eight saves in the opening period to keep the game scoreless at halftime.
St. Andrews' sophomore netminder Becca Knott (Jacksonville, N.C.) matched Lovette with eight saves in the 110 minutes of action.
The Bulldogs broke through in the 63rd minute, when Peterson centered a corner kick to the head of senior Marissa Marci (Hampton, Va.), who knocked the ball into the back of the net with a flick of the neck. Peterson then doubled up the Barton lead in the 69th minute, ripping a one-timer inside the left post on a crossing pass from freshman Sara Treadwell (Wilson, N.C.).
Barton maintained a two-goal advantage until St. Andrews was awarded a penalty kick in the 75th minute after a player was called for a hand ball off a quick restart on a free kick. Hedderman took the ensuing penalty kick and easily scored with a scorching shot to the left side of the goal to cut the deficit in half. St. Andrews was then awarded another penalty kick with only three minutes and 35 seconds left in the game after another Barton player was called for a hand ball inside the box. Hedderman once again stepped up for the Knights, this time depositing the ball to the right of the keeper.
Each team was only able to muster up two shots apiece in the two overtime periods, resulting in the deadlocked score at the end of competition.
SAPC finished with an 18-14 shot edge. Both teams had five corner kicks while Barton was whistled for more fouls, 20-9.
St. Andrews next travels to Conference Carolinas foe Belmont Abbey College on Saturday at 2 p.m. Barton hosts league rival Erskine College this Saturday during Family Weekend at 5 p.m.

HIGH POINT, N.C. — Barton College's Morgan Brush (1-4-0 overall, 1-0-0 conf.) has been selected as the NCAA Division II Conference Carolinas women's soccer Player of the Week during week number three in the 2009 season.
The Barton freshman forward from Princeton, N.C., exploded for four goals, including a second-half hat trick, on Saturday to give the host Lady Bulldogs their first win in four outings, 7-0 over Converse.Barton, which had managed but one goal in starting the year 0-3, needed some firepower, and Brush came through in a big way.
She opened the match with a 30-yard blast in the 9th minute. Three goals by her teammates provided BC a 4-0 halftime cushion. Brush broke free for goals in the 78th, 84th and 89th minutes to conclude her stellar day. Brush took seven shots on goal and scored four times.
