The Lions ended the regular season at 6-7-4. The Bulldogs ended their season at 5-13-1.
Before the game, seniors Kel Cox (London, England), Jason Ford (Colorado Springs, Colo.), Kenny Wallace (Glasgow, Scotland), and student athletic trainer Chelsea Daugherty (Summit, N.J.) were recognized for their dedication to Mars Hill athletics during their collegiate careers.
Steven Bivens (Douglasville, Ga.) scored the first goal of the game and second of the season in the 21st minute. He followed a deflection that Brian Riesenberg (Fort Thomas, Ky.) was unable to collect and put the ball in the net. Danny O'Neill (Glasgow, Scotland) had an assist on the play.
In the next minute, Caulfield scored his first goal of the day. He took the ball around one Barton defender and beat Riesenberg to give the Lions a 2-0 advantage.

WILSON, NC — Barton and visiting Queens University of Charlotte played to a 0-0 deadlock through two overtimes Saturday afternoon in the Conference Carolinas finale for both schools.
The loss left Barton out of the eight-team league tourney at 5-11-1 overall and 2-7-1 in league play. Queens left with a 5-7-2 overall mark and 2-6-2 league mark.
Each team registered six shots on goal. Freshman defender Luke Costanza made the play of the game for the Bulldogs, who scrapped for the final 58 minutes of the 110-minute match a man down. Late in regulation, the ball bounded free in front of the goal and Queens had a point-blank shot, but Costanza lunged toward the net and cleared the ball away, which drew a big bear hug from sophomore Barton goalie Brian Riesenberg (five saves).
Junior Queens keeper Chris Raines came up with a couple of huge saves and finished with six overall. The physical match featured 51 fouls (28 for Barton), five yellow cards and a red card.
Barton will finish its season this week with a 7 p.m. Senior Night match on Monday with Methodist University and a 3 p.m. clash at Mars Hill on Saturday.

BANNER ELK, N.C. - Conference Carolinas Player of the Week, Berin Boracic scored two goals in the second half to give the nationally No. 3-ranked Lees-McRae College Bobcats (8-0, 4-0) men's soccer team a 2-0 win over the gritty Barton College Bulldogs (3-7, 1-3) Wednesday night in conference match at Tate Field.
Boracic has scored the last seven of Lees-McRae's goals in three games. He notched two last week against UNC-Pembroke and a hat trick against Coker.
His first goal of the night came on a free kick in the 51st minute from 35-yards. Boracic sent a bending ball over the wall and tucked it in the near post to give the Bobcats a 1-0 lead.
He added the insurance goal in the 70th minute when Luke Staats made a run down the left wing and sent a cross to the feet of Richard Guffens. Guffens laid the ball off to Boracic who struck it for the goal to give the game the final score of 2-0.
"The big turning point in the match was the fact that we had a goal called back that would have tied the game 1 to 1," Barton head coach Matt Akins said. "The boys competed tremendously and held the ball very well. Give credit to Berin and the quality attack of Lees-McRae. They were able to put two away in the second half. Our defense was missing three key players in our back throughout most of hte second half, but we still had some players step up and battle hard. We stayed within our game plan and didn't make any mistakes in the back. Lees-McRae just finished on two quality opportunities."
Sean Paradise earned the shutout with four saves, while Brian Riesenberg made seven saves in the losing effect.
Lees-McRae outshot Barton 22-6, 9-4 on goal. The Bobcats also held a 7-2 corner kick advantage.

WILSON, NC — Freshman Lloyd O"Neill (Fareham, England) and sophomore Paxton Barnes (Wilson, NC) tallied goals Saturday night in the rain as the Barton College men's soccer team ended a 14-game skid in Conference Carolinas play with a 2-0 shutout of visiting Erskine.
The Bulldogs of third-year head coach Matt Akins had not won a league match since beating Coker on Oct. 10, 2007, so smiles were abundant as they saluted the Fall Family Weekend crowd after their victory. Barton raised its record to 3-6 overall and 1-2 in Conference Carolinas play. Erskine fell to 1-6-2 overall and 0-3-1 in the league. Barton travels to Lees-McRae and Erskine is home with Limestone in 7 p.m. clashes this Wednesday.
O'Neill notched his team-best fourth goal at the 4:30 mark. Senior Chris Tripp (Wilson, NC) made a long throw-in that senior Heinz Guttenberger (Winterville, NC) headed to O'Neill, who finished off the play for a 1-0 cushion.
The teams slogged through the rain for more than 70 more minutes before Barnes made it 2-0 in the 76th minute. Tripp served the ball to O'Neill, who beat his defender just left of the goal and centered it to Barnes for a point-blank shot. Tripp and Guttenberger now share the team lead in assists with three apiece.
Each team finished with four shots on goal. Sophomore Brian Riesenberg (Fort Thomas, KY) recorded three saves for the Bulldogs and Devon Braykovich (Roswell, GA) had two saves for the Flying Fleet.

LAURINBURG, N.C.-St. Andrews Presbyterian College jumped out to a 3-0 first half lead that was capped by a pair of goals by freshman Daniel Montero (Raleigh, N.C.), and then held off a surging Barton College in the second half for a 3-2 Conference Carolinas victory on Monday afternoon.
The Knights snapped a three game skid improving to 3-4-0 overall and 1-1-0 in the league. The Bulldogs have lost two league showdowns in three days, dipping to 2-6-0 on the season and 0-2-0 in the conference.
Montero finished with a five-point performance adding an assist on the Knights first goal. Montero recorded his first collegiate goals and assist in the victory.
St. Andrews jumped out to the three-goal lead by putting 6-of-8 shots on goal in the first half while limiting Barton to just four total shots in the first 45 minutes.
Freshman Micah Uehara (Kapolei, Hawaii) scored the Knights opening goal in the 15th minute. Montero started the play by taking a hard shot from close range that was saved but the rebound went directly to the top of the box where Uehara placed a curling kick into the back of the net.
Montero doubled up the Knights advantage four minutes later, placing a precise shot past the Bulldogs goalkeeper on a breakaway that was set up on a long pass by junior Brian Humphrey (Jacksonville, N.C.). Montero struck again in the 35th minute to increase the lead to three goals, which proved to be the game-winning goal.
Uehara, who leads St. Andrews with six points on the season, was credited with an assist on Montero's second goal. Montero was close to having a hat trick but he had a first-half goal waived off due to an offsides call.
Barton kept fighting and made the last 20 minutes very interesting with a pair of goals in a two minute and 16 second outburst. Sophomore Paxton Barnes (Wilson, N.C.) ended the shutout bid in the 70th minute, scoring with a well-placed shot after receiving the ball from senior Heinz Guttenberger (Winterville, N.C.). The Bulldogs then pulled to within one goal on a blast from freshman Lloyd O'Neill (Fareham, England), who smoked a 25-plus yard direct kick just inside the left post.
O'Neill leads Barton with three goals and six points on the season.
Knights' junior goalkeeper William Williams (Denver, Colo.) only needed to make two saves for his third victory of the season.
SAPC finished with a 19-12 shot advantage while Barton claimed an 8-5 corner kick edge.
St. Andrews next travels to Conference Carolinas foe Belmont Abbey College on Saturday at 4 p.m. Barton hosts league rival Erskine College this Saturday during Family Weekend at 7 p.m.

WINGATE, N.C.—-The Wingate University men's soccer team exploded with three second-half goals to take a 4-1 NCAA Division II victory over Barton College Wednesday night at the WU Soccer Complex.
With the victory, the homestanding Wingate Bulldogs improve to 3-1 overall on the young season. Barton falls to 2-4 overall. Three of Barton's four losses have come at the hands of South Atlantic Conference schools.
Wingate sophomore forward Paulo Brunetto (Sao Paulo, Brazil) opened the scoring in the 18th minute on an assist from junior midfielder Luke Mulholland (Preston, England). Brunetto shares the team lead with three goals.
The homestanding Bulldogs pelted the Barton goal with 14 first-half shots, but they could not find the back of the nets. Barton sophomore goalkeeper Brian Riesenberg (Ft. Thomas, Ky.) made seven saves in the opening 45 minutes, including a beautiful over-the-crossbar tap following a rifle shot by Wingate sophomore midfielder Felippe Imperatriz (Sao Paulo, Brazil).
A few minutes later, Mulholland hit the post from close range. An NSCAA/adidas NCAA Division II All-America in 2008, Mulholland would find better luck after intermission. Wingate's captain scored his first goal of the season in the 53 rd minute. An Imperatriz corner kick found junior defender Paul Grammaticoppoulos (Paris, France), who touched a perfect pass to Mulholland for the score.
Wingate senior forward Junior Nyemb (Douala, Cameroon) got on the board in the 78th minute, beating Riesenberg one-on-one. The ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America® candidate matched Brunetto with his third goal of the season.
Bulldog sophomore midfielder Paul Gallagher (Strabane, Northern Ireland) finished Wingate's scoring in the 85th minute. Gallagher's first career goal ricocheted off a Barton defender and found the back of the nets.
Barton found the net 15 seconds later on a bang-bang play. BC freshman forward Justin Taylor (Cary, N.C.) scored his first career goal on an assist from freshman midfielder Keanen Minott (Acworth, Ga.). Taylor's shot on goal was Barton's only shot attempt for the evening.
Wingate outshot Barton 25-1, compiling a 13-1 advantage in shots on goal. BC netminder Riesenberg went 90 minutes, allowing four goals and notching nine saves. Wingate junior goalkeeper Joey Calandra (Mount Pleasant, S.C.) did not record a save Wednesday night. Calanda has allowed only four goals in 360 minutes this season.

Fans at the Barton College men's soccer game on September 9 were treated to more than an excellent game between the Bulldogs and UNC-Pembroke.
Instead of an uneventful halftime, they were treated to 15-minute exhibition games played by the Under-10 Academy of the Wilson Youth Soccer Association (WYSA).
In its first year of existence, the WYSA U-10 Academy has 43 children ages 7-9 participating. These players and their families who were on hand helped to swell the attendance for the Barton-UNC-Pembroke match to over 200.
Barton and the WYSA have maintained a strong connection over the years and Barton Head Men's Soccer Matt Akins directs the U-10 Academy and arranged the exhibition matches. Academy coaches working with Akins are Connor Bedgood, Scott Benson, Meagan Bynum, and Allie Wilkerson. Bedgood, Bynum, and Wilkerson are all former Barton players.
In the college match, UNC-Pembroke prevailed 2-1 on a second-half goal.
