WILSON, NC – The Barton College men's soccer team evened its record at 2-2 Wednesday night with a 3-2 conquest of visiting NCAA D-II rival Francis Marion University .
The Patriots slipped to 1-4 with the loss. Barton entertains Queens University of Charlotte Saturday evening at 7 p.m. in its Conference Carolinas opener.
Freshman forward Fernando Guzman (Mexico City) netted one goal and one assist to lead the Bulldogs of first-year head coach Matt Akins. Barton began the night by striking quickly. Freshman midfielder Matthew Burleson (Newport News , VA) scored off a deflected shot taken by sophomore Harris Smith (Winston-Salem , NC) just two minutes into the match. Read more…

WILSON, NC — Tara Davis and Jessica Corsey scored goals Tuesday night as the Barton College women's soccer team played visiting Chowan University to a 2-2 tie.
Barton stands 0-2-1 while Chowan is 2-1-1. The Lady Bulldogs open Conference Carolinas play at 5 p.m. Saturday when Queens University of Charlotte visits.
Barton got off to a quick start Tuesday, with Davis, the 2006 CVAC Player of the Year, settling a 40-yard serve from Corsey, then ripping a 20-yard shot inside the far left post just 45 seconds after the opening kickoff.
Chowan answered at 1:52 when Clara Danzeisen hit a nifty shot from the right side of the endline from 40 yards that hit the far left post and caromed into the goal. Chowan made it 2-0 in the 19th minute when Stephanie Montague's shot bounced off some Barton defenders and over the keeper into the net. Read more…

FREDERICKSBURG, VA. — Sophomore forward Chris Tripp scored two goals Saturday afternoon to spark Barton College to a 3-2 men's soccer victory over Marymount University in the first game of the Mary Washington Classic.
Tripp (Wilson, NC, Greenfield School) accounted for two goals as the Bulldogs finished regulation deadlocked at 2-2. In overtime, sophomore David Pineiro (Goose Creek, SC) fired a shot that bounded off the keeper and trickled into the net.
The win was the first in the head coaching career of Barton's Matt Akins. The Bulldogs (1-1) will take on host Mary Washington at 3:30 Sunday afternoon.

Wingate, N.C.—- The Wingate University women's soccer team tallied two first-half goals and made the lead stick, taking a 2-0 NCAA Division II victory over Barton College Wednesday night at the Wingate Practice Facility. The contest was the home opener for the host Wingate Bulldogs.
Wingate evens its ledger at 1-1 overall with the victory. Barton falls to 0-1 overall. The Wingate Bulldogs host West Virginia Wesleyan College Friday night at 6 p.m. Barton continues its tour of the South Atlantic Conference Saturday evening, visiting Catawba College for a 5 p.m. match.
For the host Wingate Bulldogs, sophomore Jordan Mayer (Williamsburg, Va.) opened the scoring in the 15th minute. Mayer took a pass from freshman forward Jenni Barbett ( Severn, Md.) and found the back of the nets. Read more…

SALISBURY, NC — Sophomore Alexandra Beshk (Mission Viejo, CA/Mission Viejo HS) scored the lone goal as Catawba opened its season with a 1-0 win over visiting Barton in women’s soccer action on Saturday afternoon at Frock Field. The Lady Bulldogs fall to 0-2.
Catawba dominated in shots, firing 18 attempts to just three for Barton, but it took until the 83rd minute for the Catawba Indians to break through. Beshk headed home a cross to the back post from Anna Hamilton (Kernersville, NC/E. Forsyth HS) to net the game-winner.
Ashley Gregory (Wilson, NC) kept the Bulldogs close, making seven saves and also got help in the first half from Jessica Corsey (Jacksonville, NC), who turned back a shot off the line by Beshk.
Lady Indian Kathleen Blake (Greensboro, NC/NW Guilford HS) recorded the shutout in net for Catawba. She made only one save, coming off a shot from 25 yards out by Allie Williams which she had to punch over the crossbar in the 22nd minute. It was Blake’s 11th career shutout.
Catawba returns to action on Tuesday, hosting Mount Olive at 6 p.m. Barton also gets back into action on Tuesday as the Bulldogs host Chowan.
