January 4, 2012
WILSON, N.C.-Barton College has announced the promotion of Marissa Macri to the position of Interim Head Women’s Soccer Coach, effective immediately through May. Macri served as the team’s assistant coach for the 2011 season under recently departed Head Coach Ike Onyeador.
Macri is a 2010 Barton graduate with a degree in Fitness Management and lettered for four years for the Bulldogs from 2006-2009. The Bulldogs achieved winning records in three of her seasons in uniform. Macri was named to both the Dean’s List and to the Conference Carolinas Presidential Honor Roll in multiple semesters as a student-athlete. In addition to her experience on the Barton staff, Marci has served as a coach for the Virginia Rush Soccer Club in Virginia Beach, on staff for Velocity Sports Performance in Hampton, Va., and on staff for the YMCA of Wilson.
“Coach Macri has demonstrated a strong commitment to the Barton College women’s soccer program as both a student-athlete and assistant coach,” stated Gary W. Hall, Director of Athletics. “She will now handle all aspects of the program this spring, including practice and competition coaching, recruiting, and administrative tasks. She has developed a very positive rapport with our current players and I anticipate them responding well to her leadership this spring. We are fortunate that she affords us the ability to have a head coach in place so quickly.”
Briana McClain will move into the position vacated by Macri as the team’s paid Assistant Coach. She served as a volunteer assistant coach for Barton this past season and is currently a graduate student at N.C. State University. She lettered in soccer and track and field as a student-athlete at Stanislaus State University (Calif.), and graduated magna cum laude in 2010 with a major in Mathematics.
